Feast of the Immaculate Conception

The Immaculate Conception - Murillo, 17th century

The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed virgin Mary consists essentially in her exemption from original sin.  From the first moment of her existence her soul was adorned with sanctifying grace which made her a beloved child of God.  She was never in that state of separation from God in which all men find themselves before baptism.  Mary was preserved from sin in view of the merits of her Son.  The grace of the Redeemer prevented her from being tainted by original sin; whereas, we have been rescued from this sin through baptism.

PRAYER

Receive, O Most Sweet Mother, our humble supplications, and above all obtain for us that, one day, happy with you, we may repeat before your throne that hymn which today is sung on earth around your altars: You are all-beautiful, O Mary! You are the glory, you are the joy, you are the honor of our people!  Amen.
