IN LOVE WITH THE DIVINE OUTCAST
St. Thérèse of Lisieux read the glowing panegyric of St. Paul, and her reading became a revelation. "In the Heart of the Church―of Christ's Body―I will be love." Love would enable her to exercise all the vocations to which she daringly aspired. Through love she would be:―a priest, a confessor, a martyr for the Faith. And that penetration of St. Thérèse through the Body and right to the Heart, made her a carrier of Life to millions. But then she did not stop at the Heart, she sought light and guidance from the Head. She heard Paul's exhortation, "Let that mind that was Jesus Christ's be in you too."
"Love one another, for Charity is God. and everyone that liveth, is born of God and knoweth God."
(1 John, 4/7.)

The Mind of Christ
To be united with Our Lord, to be as it were one with Him, is the only happiness in time and in eternity; so let us hasten to make Our Lord live within us."
(St. Madeleine Sophie.)
Is it not sad to see the benefits of a loving God so little appreciated or even entirely unsuspected?
The ecstatic love of God is revealed especially in the two-fold gift which comprises, on the one hand, the Incarnation and the blessed Eucharist, and, on the other, the Presence of God in the soul. The first gift is well-known and appreciated; the second is all but non-existent. Yes, we forget the God Who, in His Infinite Love, deigns to stand in need of our friendship, and Who, in order the more easily to secure it, gives Himself to us in the intimacy of our souls and makes of them His Heaven―His Living Tabernacles.
The realization of this Dogma would produce a life of unceasing prayer and continuous converse with God.
St. Jane Frances de Chantel says:―"The secret of the spiritual life is to keep ourselves close to God, and to walk in the continual presence of His Divine Majesty, by Faith, not by sentiment. This presence of God within us must be accompanied by the death of self. These two practices cannot be separated. To walk in the presence of God is to walk in the path of His good pleasure not according to the flesh or human understanding, or self-love; not in self-esteem or attachment to our own judgment and will, but according to the Divine Will; to lose our own interests and self-will in the Will of God." Yes, the final aim of all penance is our life in God. The soul who desires God to live in her, leaves nothing unfortified in herself which may be displeasing to the Divine Master. Her longing for Him is so great that she readily does violence to herself so as to die to herself that God may live eternally in her.
St. Paul says we should have the Mind of Christ. We could have the Mind of Christ, if we would. But the labour it entails! The constant care involved! The oft-repeated check on unkind thoughts, lest they slip out into words! The strain is great, at first, but none too great when, in exchange we put on the Mind of Christ. We may have much learning. We may be highly intellectual. We may have Degrees ad infinitum, but if we have not the Mind of Christ, to what does all the rest amount?
It amounts to this, (to be continued)

| Lucia, Francis and Jacinta |
Read the Entire Book Here
They were Lucy, ten years old, youngest child of the Santo family, and her cousins, Francis and Jacinta Marto.
Lucy was a level-headed youngster, upright and truthful. She had the strong character of her mother, a woman of deep and sturdy faith with a passionate hatred of falsehood.
Jacinta was a tender, vivacious child, who charmed every one with her pretty ways. She was quick and intelligent. Francis was two years older than his sister. He had a good deal of affection for her, and listened solemnly to her gay chatter. Sometimes when she pouted, it pleased him to unbend from the dignity of his extra two years and give in to her.
The two Marto children often came to Lucy's house. The folk songs and legends of the country were to be heard aplenty within its hospitable walls. And Lucy's mother had not her equal for relating how Our Lord laid down his life because He loved men so, and how, during all the ages since, men and women have loved and died for love of Him.
So it is that Lucy, Francis and Jacinta became inseparable friends. They passed their days together. They ran and played and danced. And when they were breathless, they rested in their favorite nook behind the well in the Santos' garden. Lucy was usually called upon for a story, for she had something of Her mother's gift for telling about Jesus, His Mother and His Saints. Jacinta pleaded often to hear the account of why and how Christ suffered and died. She listened with tearful eyes, and said: "Poor Lord! I won't sin any more. I don't want Jesus to suffer." Francis became a still and pensive little man, a far-away look in his eyes.
Lucy was the only one of the trio to have made her First Communion. This experience made her wonderful to her friends. They were eager to be like her - entitled to receive the bread of angels, and to talk to Jesus brought into their young hearts.

Holy Mother of Jesus
Holy Mother of Jesus, I love thee,
My heart throbs with joy at thy name;
O, had I the tongue of an angel,
Thy glory to all I'd proclaim.
Like an exile I sigh for my home
In the far away mansion above,
In the far away mansion above,
To dwell with bright angels and thee
Near the fountain of undying love.
O my sad soul is weary of life,
I long for that haven of rest.
There the peace I have sought will I find.
Take me, Mother, to thy gentle breast.
It is Jesus alone that can fill
The void in the wanderer's breast;
Mother, ask Him to say "Peace be still,"
And my soul's troubled ocean will rest.
No more shall my heart's tendrils twine
Round perishing idols of clay;
Ask thy dear Son to sever each tie
That keeps me from Him far away.
When the shadow of death hovers round,
Still, Mother, I call upon thee,
Nor fear the last trumpet's dread sound,
For I know thou art waiting for me.

Our Lady of Fatima
The story of the apparitions at Fatima is too well know now to need detailed repetition here. The whole Catholic world has heard how our Lady appeared on May 13, 1917 to three Portuguese children, Lucy, Jacinta and Francis, and then again once each month until the following October, when she sealed her testimony with the great miracle of the sun.
Here is the story story told in the light of Hollywood talent. We welcome it with open hearts.

Practice of Piety
A good Catholic ought to bless himself as soon as he awakens, and offer himself to God, saying: "Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul." Then he should rise and dress himself with the greatest modesty. St. Aloysius was most scrupulous in this regard, because he looked upon the virtue of purity as a spotless mirror that is tarnished by the least breath. While dressing say following prayer:
"O my good Angel, whom God has appointed to be my guardian, enlighten and protect me, direct and govern me, who have been entrusted to thee by the Divine Mercy, Amen."
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
When you have dressed, kneel down before an image of Jesus crucified, or a picture of the Blessed Virgin or one of the Saints, and say your Morning Prayers.

Rainy Day with the Ave
Ave Maria.
The Manual of Children of Mary - 1930
Ave Maria! full of grace,
When shall we behold thy face?
See the Star of morning rise,
As in prayer we lift our eyes
To the mansions of the skies,
Thy home, dear Mother, the land of rest.
Ave Maria! when in death
We slowly draw the parting breath,
Be sure, dear Mother, thou art there
With gracious aid and fervent prayer.
Ora Mater, full of grace,
Then shall we behold thy face.
When shall we behold thy face?
See the Star of morning rise,
As in prayer we lift our eyes
To the mansions of the skies,
Thy home, dear Mother, the land of rest.
Ave Maria! when in death
We slowly draw the parting breath,
Be sure, dear Mother, thou art there
With gracious aid and fervent prayer.
Ora Mater, full of grace,
Then shall we behold thy face.

MARY'S OTHER LITTLE PRAYERS
St Bernards Love for Mary - The Story
The Story:
Of St. Bernard it may be said, that at baptism already love and devotion of the ever-blessed Virgin Mary was infused into his heart. With astonishment it was noticed, that joy caused him in his tenderest childhood to tremble when he beheld a picture of Mary, or heard her sweet name mentioned. As a young man St. Bernard found himself exposed to many dangers; therefore he entered a monastery. Here he manifested his love to the blessed Mother of God, which no pen is able to describe. He was the herald of the Queen of heaven, the most zealous announcer of her unfathomable beauty and sanctity, the inspired preacher of her incomprehensible prerogatives and excellent virtues, the most childlike venerator of Mary. His words seized powerfully the hearts of his co-temporaries and drew them gently to the love and veneration of Mary. In his whole life, devoted to the glory of God and the salvation of men, he never failed until his death in the year 1153 to propagate everywhere the veneration of Mary.
The Prayer:
Remember, O most merciful Virgin Mary, that it is unheard of, that any one flying to thee for protection, imploring thy help, or seeking thy intercession, was ever forsaken. Animated by this unerring confidence, I hasten to thee, Virgin of virgins; I fly to thee, O sweet Mother, a wretched sinner, I prostrate myself sighing at thy feet; despise not my prayer, O Mother of the Divine Word, but graciously hear and grant the same. Amen.

Before Time Was

THE VIRGIN MOTHER
ACCORDING TO THEOLOGY
REV. JOHN BAPTIST PETITALOT

REV. JOHN BAPTIST PETITALOT
― 1889 ―
Let us go back in thought before time was. Nothing exists but God; outside His eternal Being all is silent; it is the silence of nothingness. God has not yet moved from His unalterable repose. He has not yet launched the stars into space. He has not established the earth on its foundations. He has not yet pronounced that all powerful fiat which will bring order out of chaos, dispel the darkness, divide the waters, cover the land with herbs and plants, and fix in the firmament those shining lights which are to preside over day and night. He has not produced any living soul, neither the fishes that swim in the sea, nor the birds that fly in the air, nor the reptiles and animals that dwell on the land; nor that being who is to command the fishes in the sea, the birds of heaven, the reptiles and the animals on the land, man―the king of creation; man who is to bear on his brow and yet more in his soul the image and likeness of his Creator.
Nothing exists but God, for God has not yet created the world. But the decree of creation is eternal like its Creator, and creation in its fulness already exists in the mind of God. And foremost in this eternal thought Christ, inseparable from His Mother, presents Himself: Christ, the First-born of every creature; Mary Mother of Christ, the first-born of women. For the Church puts into her mouth those beautiful words of the Proverbs, ch. viii.: The Lord possessed me in the beginning of His ways. . . . The depths were not as yet and I was already conceived. . . . Before the hills I was brought forth.

Let us confide our salvation after Jesus to Mary. If she wills to save us, by her intercession with her Son, we shall be saved, and it depends on ourselves whether she wills it or not. If we sincerely desire it ourselves, if we ask it each day of our tender Mother, we may hold ourselves assured of that great gift of final perseverance.
And when Mary shall have placed us by her side, we shall say to that great Queen: It is thou, sweet and powerful Sovereign, who by thy influence with thy Son hast saved us. Mayest thou be blest, loved, and glorified for ever!

Prayers of an Irish Mother - 1934
For the promises of Spring,
For the heron on the wing,
For the song the blackbirds sing.
Gracious Lord we thank Thee!
For the Summer's roses red,
For the fragrance sweet they shed,
For the cloudless skies o'erhead,
Gracious Lord we thank Thee!
For the Autumn's purple haze,
For the beauty of her ways,
For the fruitful harvest days
Gracious Lord, we thank Thee!
For the Winter, white and drear,
For the woodlands gaunt and sere,
For the passing of the year,
Gracious Lord, we thank Thee!
For the heron on the wing,
For the song the blackbirds sing.
Gracious Lord we thank Thee!
For the Summer's roses red,
For the fragrance sweet they shed,
For the cloudless skies o'erhead,
Gracious Lord we thank Thee!
For the Autumn's purple haze,
For the beauty of her ways,
For the fruitful harvest days

O Virgin Mother of our God,
While we thy matchless glories chant,
Do thou, in answer to our praise,
To us abundant graces grant.
We Adam's guilty children are,
A sin-infected progeny,
Thou art, O Virgin, we believe,
Alone from this infection free.
The envious dragon's cruel head
Thou with thy heel dost trample down,
And of a stainless origin
Thou only dost the glory own.
O Power of the human race,
Who takes Eve's reproach away,
Protect us when we cry to thee,
Our tottering footsteps deign to stay.
