The Ninth Day of May

(From St. Clement of Alexandria and St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori)

Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, is like a beautiful and holy tabernacle made by the Holy Spirit Himself.
God filled her with His grace and holiness because Jesus, the King of Heaven and Lord of all glory, chose to dwell within her in a pure and untouched way.

How powerful must Our Blessed Mother’s prayers be before God!
If the prayers of the saints are already so strong and precious, then how much more powerful are the prayers of Mary, who is not only a servant of God, but the very Mother of Jesus Himself, the Queen of Heaven.

When the saints pray for us, they pray as faithful servants of God.
But when Mary prays for us, she prays as a loving Mother close to the heart of her Son.

Translated and adapted by Sister Mary Claire from the old German devotional book St. Marien-Buch, published in Breslau, Germany by Carl König in the late 19th century.
