The Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be and Rain on the Roof

 Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.

About These Prayers

The Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be are among the best-loved prayers of the Catholic Church.

The Our Father was given to us by Jesus Himself when His disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray. It is found in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke.

The Hail Mary begins with the words spoken to Mary by the Angel Gabriel and by Saint Elizabeth in the Gospel of Luke. The Church later added the tender petition asking Mary, the Mother of God, to pray for us now and at the hour of our death.

The Glory Be is an ancient Christian prayer of praise to the Holy Trinity. Its familiar form became widely used during the fourth century and has long been prayed at the conclusion of psalms, decades of the Rosary, and other devotions.

These three prayers were taken from My Daily Companion at Mass, published by the Benedictine Convent of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde, Missouri. This copy is the third edition, dated December 1948. The little prayer book originally sold for ten cents and bears the Church’s Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur.
